Subject: Re: just posted on the blog....
that is a great photo. We have a copy that was in a bunch of Helen's pictures that Jane gave us one time we were in Landrum. We're doing pretty well here in the land of plenty (of people and cars, anyway). We went to Jazz Night 1 at
Max's high school on Friday night. He wasn't there as this first Jazz Night featured the intermediate and advanced groups. Lexington High School has an amazing performing arts program. The kids were wonderful, and we really enjoyed it. Tonight, Sunday, Nov.6, we went up to Concord to a string quartet performance that was also wonderful, though different than Jazz Night!!
Yes. Lexington was very hard hit by the early snow storm on Halloween weekend. We were without electricity from 8:30 Saturday evening till noon on Monday. It got pretty cold. We spent both nights at home because Janey and Gill don't have any beds high enough for Ed to get out of. We did go to their house on Sunday afternoon, sat by fire watching the NE Patriots lose the football game and eating pizza and other good stuff. A fairly large tree fell on our car, denting the roof pretty badly, though it is still driveable. the four or five inches of heavy wet snow on the still green leaves of the silver maples brought them down all over town. There are parts of town that are still without power, though most of the streets are clear of trees and branches of all sizes. There was a state of emergency and no school and very few open businesses from Saturday until Wednesday.
Janey Sue is working too hard and trying to do all the mommy things too. Gill is still working with DARPA in D.C. and that makes life more complicated for both of them. Ben is in a private school in Cambridge, which is much better for him than his first four years in the public school, but is a more complicated pick-up. Janey can drop him off on her way to the hospital most days, but if she has a long day in the o.r., someone else has to get him. Max is in his first year in high school, taking subjects I don't understand, including beginning jazz. He plays bass in a rock band in his spare time and helps teach kids to make things of stained glass and other crafts he learned at camp. We don't get to see them very often but Max drops by after school occasionally.
We have Home Health Aide who comes in five days a week. She is a good Christian woman, whose youngest child is a senior at LHS. She lives about a mile from us and helps Ed do exercises, encourages him to got out and go walking, etc, while also helping out around the house with cleaning and laundry. That enables me to take a couple of art classes and participate in the Cardiac Wellness Program each week, which I really enjoy. AND we have a wonderful new church family. Three different families brought us food on the weekends when I came home from the hospital in August. Everyone is really sweet to Ed and look out for him when I'm at choir practice and include him in the conversations in Bible Study and other groups. So, I guess the answer to your question is, we're hanging together so far, better than I expected to.
Love you,
Nancy
